TGF-beta is activated from latency by Plasmin, matrix metalloproteases, Thrombospondin 1, or a subset of integrins. TGF-beta signals through a complex of TGF-beta RII and either TGF-beta RI/ALK-5 or ALK-1. TGF-beta induced signaling is modulated by the accessory proteins Betaglycan/TGF-beta RIII and Endoglin.
