Background: FXR/NR1H4

FXR is a 56 kDa nuclear receptor belonging to the NR1 subfamily. It is highly expressed in liver, intestine, kidney and white adipose tissue. FXR binds bile acids and functions as a transcription activator or repressor through interactions with a large variety of FXR response elements. Human and mouse FXR share approximately 92% amino acid sequence identity.
