Background: Luteinizing Hormone

Proinsulin is produced and processed to mature insulin in the beta cells of the islets of Langerhans in the pancreas. Insulin is involved in carbohydrate and fat metabolism, causing liver, muscle and fat cells to take up glucose from circulating blood, storing it as glycogen in muscle and liver.
