Background: mtRNA polymerase

POLRMT, also known as DNA-directed RNA polymerase, mitochondrial, is a 246 amino acid protein that is 28 kDa, catalyzes the transcription of mitochondrial DNA into RNA using the four ribonucleoside triphosphates as substrates. This protein is currently being studied for research on autosomal dominant progressive external ophthalmoplegia, essential thrombocythemia, ophthalmoplegia, immunodeficiency, and malaria. This protein has also shown to have interactions with TFB1M, NFKB2, ICT1, TFB2M, TFAM, and over 200 other proteins in ATP/ITP metabolism, mitochondrial gene expression, transcription from mitochondrial promoters, transcription, RNA polymerase I, RNA polymerase III, and mitochondrial transcription, gene expression, and mitochondrial transcription initiation pathways.
