Background: S1P1/EDG-1

S1PR1 (Sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor 1) is also known as Endothelial differentiation G-protein coupled receptor 1. It is the receptor for, and binds to, the lipid signaling molecule Sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P) with high affinity and specificity, and is suggested to be involved in regulatory processes of differentiation of endothelial cells and cell-cell adhesion. S1P is a bioactive lysophospholipid that elicits diverse physiological effect on most types of cells and tissuesThis inducible epithelial cell G-protein-coupled receptor may be involved in the processes that regulate the differentiation of endothelial cells. It seems to be coupled to the G (i) subclass of heteromeric G proteins.
