Scientific Data Images for SELS Antibody

Western Blot: SELS Antibody [NBP2-32096]

Western Blot: SELS Antibody [NBP2-32096]

Western Blot: SELS Antibody [NBP2-32096] - Whole cell lysate (0.5 or 1.0 mg per IP reaction; 20% of IP loaded) prepared using NETN buffer from HeLa cells. Antibodies: Affinity purified rabbit anti-Selenoprotein S antibody NBP2-32096 used for IP at 6 ug per reaction. Selenoprotein S was also immunoprecipitated by rabbit anti-Selenoprotein S antibody BL16285. For blotting immunoprecipitated Selenoprotein S, NBP2-32096 was used at 1 ug/ml. Detection: Chemiluminescence with an exposure time of 3 minutes.

Background: SELS

SELS encodes a selenoprotein, which contains a selenocysteine (Sec) residue at its active site. The selenocysteine is encoded by the UGA codon that normally signals translation termination. The 3' UTR of selenoprotein genes have a common stem-loop structure, the sec insertion sequence (SECIS), that is necessary for the recognition of UGA as a Sec codon rather than as a stop signal. Studies suggest that this protein may regulate cytokine production, and thus play a key role in the control of the inflammatory response. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene.
