Background: LAMP

LSAMP, also known as Limbic system-associated membrane protein, is a 338 amino acid protein that is 53 kDa, expressed on limbic neurons and fiber tracts as well as in single layers of the superior colliculus, spinal cord and cerebellum; mediates selective neuronal growth and axon targeting, contributes to the guidance of developing axons and remodeling of mature circuits in the limbic system, vital for normal growth of the hyppocampal mossy fiber projection. Current research is being performed on several diseases and disorders including neuronitis, clear cell renal cell carcinoma, bipolar disorder, osteosarcoma, renal cell carcinoma, cerebritis, schizophrenia, and carcinoma. This protein has been shown to interact with PPNP, YWHAB, PPP2CB, DHX9, and STX16 in cell adhesion and nervous system development pathways.
