Background: USP15
Ubiquitin carboxyl-terminal hydrolase 15 (USP15) is a specialized cysteine protease with a predicted molecular weight of 112 kDa. USP15 is a member of the peptidase C19 family and the human protein shares 98% amino acid sequence identity with its mouse ortholog. USP15 is a regulator of the TGF beta signaling pathway, where it may promote signaling strength by deubiquitination of SMAD proteins and/or the TGF betaR1. Other reported targets of USP15 include histone H2B, NF kappaBI alpha, MDM2 and human papillomavirus type 16 E6 protein.
