beta-1,4-Galactosyltransferase 1/B4GalT1: Proteins and Enzymes
Human B4GalT1 is a 52 kDa type II transmembrane glycoprotein that belongs to the glycosyltransferase 7 family. The 398 amino acid (aa) protein is ubiquitously expressed and involved in glycoconjugate biosynthesis. There are at least three additional splice variants and one soluble proteolytic cleavage isoform. The soluble form (aa 78 to 398) is a component of lactose synthase in milk that also contains alpha-lactalbumin.
