FGF-8: Proteins and Enzymes
Fibroblast Growth Factor 8 (FGF-8) is widely expressed during embryogenesis where it plays an organizing and inducing role during gastrulation. It also regulates the patterning of the midbrain/hindbrain, eye, ear, limbs, and heart. Multiple alternative splice isoforms play distinct roles in development as well as epithelial-mesenchymal transition. They also show differential agonist activity towards the various isoforms of FGF R1, R2, R3, R4, and R5. FGF-8 is weakly expressed in the adult reproductive and genitourinary tract, peripheral leukocytes, and bone marrow hematopoietic cells.
