HIST1H3G: Proteins and Enzymes
Histones are nuclear proteins that are responsible for the nucleosome structure of the chromosomal fiber as they play a critical role in transcription regulation, DNA repair, DNA replication, and chromosomal stability. The intronless HIST1H3G gene is found on chromosome 6 and encodes a 136 amino acid long, 15 kDA protein that lacks a polyA tail but instead contains palindromic termination elements. It is involved with the interferon pathway, PKA signaling, meiosis, amyloids, hemostasis, and UVB-induced MAPK signaling. HIST1H3g is known to interact with genes AIRE, HIST1H4A, HIST1H4B, HIST1H4C, and CCDC101. Researchers have investigated its role in lupus and immunodeficiency.
