Hrk: Proteins and Enzymes
HRK (harakiri) is a 10 kDa pro-apoptotic member of the Bcl-2 family of apoptosis regulatory proteins. Hrk lacks significant homology to other Bcl-2 family members except for an 8-amino acid region that is similar to the BH3 domain of Bik (Bcl-2-interacting Killer). Hrk physically interacts with Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL, but not with the pro-apoptotic Bax, BAK, or Bcl-xS. Hrk regulates apoptosis by interacting selectively with survival-promoting Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL to induce cell death.
