Melanocortin-1 R/MC1R, the receptor for melanocyte-stimulating hormone (MSH), is a seven pass transmembrane G protein-coupled receptor that controls melanogenesis. Binding of MSH to MC1R activates the receptor and stimulates eumelanin synthesis.
