ORP1: Proteins and Enzymes
Oxysterols are oxygenated derivatives of cholesterol that have a number of biological effects and play a key role in the maintenance of the body cholesterol balance. ORP1 is a member of the oxysterol-binding protein (OSBP) family, a group of intracellular lipid receptors that are believed to transport sterols from lysosomes to the nucleus where the sterol down-regulates the genes for the LDL receptor, HMG-CoA reductase, and HMG synthetase.
