WASP: Proteins and Enzymes

Members of the WASP family play important roles in actin remodeling and reorganization that control cell morphology, cell shape change, cytokinesis, and cell motility. In mammals, five WASP family members exist: WASP, N-WASP, and WAVE 1, 2, and 3. The expression of WASP is limited to hematopoietic cells, and mutations in WASP have been associated with Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome (WAS), characterized by eczema, bleeding, and recurrent infections.
