WNK4: Proteins and Enzymes
WNK lysine deficient protein kinase 4 (WNK4) is a cytoplasmic serine-threonine kinase expressed in the distal nephron which likely plays an important role in hypertension. The role of WNK4 in kidney physiology is to act as a molecular switch between NaCl reabsorption (volume retention) and K+ secretion (waste release).
WNK4 mutations have been associated with an autosomal dominant disease called pseudohypoaldosteronism type II.
