delta-Sarcoglycan: Proteins and Enzymes

delta-Sarcoglycan is a 35-kDa type II transmembrane glycoprotein that participates in sarcoglycan complex formation. This complex is formed sequentially and consists of five (alpha- through epsilon-) Sarcoglycan subunits. The initial step involves delta-sarcoglycan binding to beta-Sarcoglycan, followed by the addition of alpha-, gamma-, and epsilon-Sarcoglycan. delta-Sarcoglycan is necessary for early complex stability. The sarcoglycan complex interacts with a cell surface dystrophin complex to link the cytoskeleton to the extracellular matrix.
