Neurofascin: Proteins and Enzymes
Neurofascin, a type I glycoprotein of the LICAM family of adhesion molecules, is involved in axon subcellular targeting and synapse formation during neural development. Two known neurofascin isoforms, NF155 and NF186, have different expression patterns and different functional properties. NF155, expressed on oligodendrocytes, promotes neuronal adhesion and neurite outgrowth, whereas neuronally expressed NF186 inhibits neuronal adhesion.
