PGC1 alpha: Proteins and Enzymes
PGC-1alpha (peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1 alpha), also known as PPARGC1A, belongs to a family of PPAR coactivators. It facilitates mitochondrial DNA synthesis, thus regulating energy metabolism, and also binds estrogen receptors ERalpha and ERRalpha. The G482 polymorphism appears to play a role in insulin resistance in Type II diabetics.
