Background: S1P5/EDG-8

S1P5 is also known as EDG-8 and nerve growth factor-related G-protein-coupled receptor-1 (NRG-1). S1P5 is a 398 amino acid (aa) seven-transmembrane receptor putative glycoprotein that binds the lysolipid phosphoric acid mediator, sphingosine 1-phosphate. Extracellular portions of human S1P5 show 96% and 97% aa identity with mouse and rat S1P5, respectively. Isoform 1 is expressed at a low level in peripheral tissues. Isoform 2 has an alternate C-terminal that is 88 aa shorter and is expressed mainly in brain, spleen, and PBMC. S1P5 is upregulated in large granular lymphocytic leukemias.
