Background: Integrin alpha 4/CD49d

The alpha4 subunit, also known as CD49d and VLA-4 alpha subunit, forms heterodimers with Integrin beta1 (CD29) or beta7. Integrins alpha4 beta1 and alpha4 beta7 are receptors for fibronectin and VCAM. Integrin alpha4 beta1 also binds the mucosal addressin cell adhesion molecule (MAdCAM-1).
