Background: RAR gamma/NR1B3

Retinoic Acid Receptor gamma (RAR gamma; NR1B3) is closely related to the Thyroid hormone Receptor (TR). RARs bind to two retinoids, all-trans retinoic acid and 9-cis retinoic acid. RAR gamma is expressed in both adult and fetal skin. Along with other members of the RAR family, RAR gamma is redundantly involved in vertebrates in the pleiotropic control of embryonic patterning and organogenesis, cell proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis, as well as homeostatic control.
