Scientific Data Images for Human Synaptopodin Antibody

Synaptopodin antibody in Human Kidney by Immunohistochemistry (IHC-P).

Synaptopodin in Human Kidney.

Synaptopodin was detected in immersion fixed paraffin-embedded sections of human kidney using Mouse Anti-Human Synaptopodin Monoclonal Antibody (Catalog # MAB8977) at 15 µg/mL overnight at 4 °C. Tissue was stained using the Anti-Mouse HRP-DAB Cell & Tissue Staining Kit (brown; Catalog # CTS002) and counterstained with hematoxylin (blue). Specific staining was localized to glomeruli. View our protocol for Chromogenic IHC Staining of Paraffin-embedded Tissue Sections.

Background: Synaptopodin

Synaptopodin is a 929 amino acid, actin associated protein with restricted expression in brain and kidney.  First reported in glomerular podocytes, the protein is also  found in postsynaptic densities (PSDs) in a subpopulation of telencephalic neurons where it is thought to participate in synaptic plasticity in dendritic spines.  Despite its localization in PSDs, it is not homologous to other PSD proteins.  Loss of synaptopodin expression has been demonstrated in Alzheimer’s patients. In glomeruli, synaptopodin localizes to the cytoplasm of podocyte foot processes.
