Background: Mas

MAS1 oncogene (Proto-oncogene Mas, MAS1) is a GTP binding protein coupled receptor which shares a conserved structural motif with other proteins of its class. When activated, MAS1 is a modulator of a critical step in the growth-regulating pathway to trigger oncogenes (PMID: 20674894). Evidence has shown that the MAS1 oncogene acts as a receptor for angiotensin (Ang)-(1-7), however it is not fully known how Intracellular signaling through Mas1 occurs (PMID: 19461648). Furthermore, research proves that in tandom with Ang-(1-7), the MAS1 receptor is expressed in the ovarian stroma of post menopausal women and in male testis (PMID: 20674894, 20361351). Additionally, together with Ang- (1-7) MAS1 may be an important component of normal spermatogenesis as low expression levels were found in infertile men with impaired spermatogenesis (PMID: 20361351).
