Background: SESN3

Sestrin 3 (SESN3) is a member of the sestrin family of proteins, which modulate peroxide signaling and antioxident defense. p53, a tumor suppressor, regulates the expression of proteins in this family. SESN3 is a promising target for selectively killing cancer cells containing high levels of AKT, a protein kinase that is hyperactivated in cancer cells. AKT is involved in cell proliferation and protects cells from apoptosis.
