Samples: Whole cell lysate (50, 15 ug) from HeLa and (50 ug) from 293T, Jurkat, and mouse NIH3T3 cells prepared using NETN lysis buffer. Immunoprecipitation: SMCX Antibody [NB100-55327] - Detection of human Jarid1C (SMCX) by western blot of immunoprecipitates. Samples: Whole cell lysate (0.5 or 1.0 mg per IP reaction; 20% of IP loaded) from HeLa cells prepared using NETN lysis buffer. Antibodies: Affinity purified rabbit anti-Jarid1C antibody NB100-55327 used for IP at 6 ug per reaction. Jarid1C was also immunoprecipitated by rabbit anti-Jarid1C antibody NB100-55328. For blotting immunoprecipitated Jarid1C, NB100-55327 was used at 0.4 ug/ml. Detection: Chemiluminescence with an exposure time of 3 minutes.

Background: SMCX

This gene is a member of the SMCY homolog family and encodes a protein with one ARID domain, one JmjC domain, one JmjN domain and two PHD-type zinc fingers. The DNA-binding motifs suggest this protein is involved in the regulation of transcription and chromatin remodeling. Mutations in this gene have been associated with X-linked mental retardation. Alternatively spliced variants that encode different protein isoforms have been described but the full-length nature of only one has been determined.
