SP8: Proteins and Enzymes
SP8 is a gene that codes for a protein with four isoforms, measuring 490, 448, 434, and 508 amino acids in length with weights of approximately 49, 45, 44, and 51 kDa respectively. The protein encoded by SP8 functions as a transcription factor that plays a role in limb development by regulating FGF8 expression in the apical ectodermal ridge. Current studies are being done on diseases and disorders related to this gene including bipolar disorder, brain injuries, and papilloma. SP8 has also been shown to have interactions with HYL, ZNF273, ZNF519, CELA3B, and INTS7.
