Background: gamma Catenin

Catenin gamma, also known as Junction Plakoglobin, is a common junctional plaque protein. It is a cytoplasmic protein with soluble and membrane-associated forms. The presence of Catenin gamma in both the desmosomes and in the intermediate junctions suggests it has a role in the structure and Function of submembranous plaques.

Alternate Names

catenin (cadherin-associated protein), gamma (80kD), catenin (cadherin-associated protein), gamma 80kDa, Catenin gamma, Desmoplakin III, desmoplakin-3, DP3CTNNG, DPIII, gamma-catenin, junction plakoglobin, PDGBARVD12, PKGB

Gene Symbol

JUP
