Background: Cornulin

Cornulin, the product of the C1orf 10 gene found in the epidermal differentiation complex (EDC), is a 70 kDa protein that is expressed primarily in the upper layers of differentiated squamous tissues. It is a member of the “fused gene” family and contains two EF-hand Ca2+-binding domains in its amino-terminal region and two Thr/Glu-rich repeats in its C-terminal region. Over the region used as the immunogen, human and mouse Cornulin share 73% amino acid sequence identity.
