Background: FGF-13

FGF-13, also known as FGF homologous factor 2 (FHF-2), is a member of the FGF family. It is expressed in brain and skeletal muscle and has been implicated in nervous system development and function. The gene for FGF-13 has been localized in human chromosome X, in a region associated with Borjeson-Forssman-Lehmann syndrome, a syndromal X-linked mental retardation. By alternative splicing, two isoforms that differ in their amino-terminal residues have been described.
