Background: Plexin B1

Plexin B1 is a type I transmembrane protein that belongs to the Plexin family of semaphorin receptors. It is derived from a single peptide that undergoes proteolytic processing in its extracellular domain to form the non-covalently-linked heterodimer of the extracellular alpha subunit and the transmembrane beta subunit. Human Plexin B1 extracellular alpha subunit shares homology with semaphorins, HGF receptor and MSP receptor and contains a sema domain and three IPT/TIG domains. It functions as a receptor for semaphorin 4D/CD100. Multiple splice isoforms of Plexin B1 have been reported. Within the region used as immunogen, human Plexin B1 shares 90% and 97% amino acid sequence homology with mouse and canine Plexin B1, respectively.
