Background: TAFA3/FAM19A3
TAFA3 (also FAM19A3) is an 11 kDa (predicted) member of the FAM19/TAFA family of 5 proteins that show differential expression in the brain. It is probably a secreted protein. TAFA 1‑4 proteins bear chemokine-like signatures, and are distantly related to MIP-1 alpha, sharing its CC motif. A conserved 10 cysteine pattern suggests multiple disulfide linkages. Mature human TAFA3 is 103 aa in length and has no predicted N‑linked glycosylation sites. It shares 86% aa identity with mouse TAFA3. A potential 131 aa isoform diverges at aa 59 of the mature sequence.
