Background: Integrin alpha 2/CD49b

The Integrin alpha2 subunit, also known as CD49b and VLA-2 alpha subunit, forms a heterodimer with beta1 Integrin. The alpha2 beta1 Integrin is a collagen receptor that binds expressing cells to collagen and regulates collagen and collagenase secretion. Notably, this subunit has an "I" domain that is resistant to proteolysis. Over amino acids
(aa) 27-1129, mouse Integrin alpha2 shares 80% aa sequence identity with human Integrin alpha2.
