Saquinavir mesylate is an inhibitor of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) protease (K_i values are <0.1 and 0.12 nM for HIV-2 and HIV-1 protease respectively). Exhibits high antiviral activity and low cytotoxicity. In silico docking models predict potential as an inhibitor of SARS-CoV-2 3CL^pro.
