Dispensing Fungal Spores

Isolating individual germinating fungal spores poses challenges due to the delicate nature and small size of the emerging hyphae. Conventional cell sorters are not well-suited for this task, as they may lead to clogging and potential contamination with non-germinating fungal spores, which are challenging to eliminate. This application note highlights the effectiveness of Bio-Techne single cell dispensers in isolating germinating spores. The Hana and Pala instruments successfully accommodate the lengthy hyphae without clogging and maintain cell viability during isolation. The study provides valuable insights into the deposition efficiency and isolation accuracy for germinating fungal spores with the Bio-Techne single cell sorting platform.
