5-HT1D Receptor Antagonists: Small Molecules and Peptides
5-HT1D is one of the several different receptors for 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin), a biogenic hormone that functions as a neurotransmitter, a hormone, and a mitogen. The activity of 5-HT1D is mediated by G proteins that inhibit adenylate cyclase activity. There is an association between polymorphisms within the genes encoding 5-HT1D and 5-HT1B with anorexia nervosa (AN). mRNA concentrations of the 5-HT1D receptor and the transcription factors, NUDR and REST, were significantly increased in dorsal raphe nucleus-captured neurons of female major depressive disorder subjects.
