ATOX1: Proteins and Enzymes

ATOX1 is a ubiquitously expressed copper chaperone that supports copper homeostasis by transporting cytosolic copper to ATPase proteins in the trans-Golgi network, where they can then be incorporated to the ceruloplasmin. ATOX 1 is also thought to function as an antioxidant against superoxide and hydrogen peroxide, and therefore plays an important role in carcinogenesis.
