beta-Defensin 3: Lysates
Defensins are members of a family of microbicidal and cytotoxic peptides produced by neutrophils. They are classified into alpha-, beta-, and theta-defensins based on their sizes and intramolecular disulfide bond patterns. They are produced in a tissue-restricted manner in response to microbial products or pro- inflammatory cytokines. beta-Defensin 2 is induced in skin, airway epithelial cells, and keratinocytes, while beta-Defensin 3 is expressed primarily in salivary gland, pancreas, and gonadal structures.
