POLQ is highly expressed in the testes, plays a role in DNA polymerase activity, and may be implicated in interstrand crosslink repair (ICR). Research on DNA polymerase theta has shown a connection to several diseases and disorders including stomach cancer, malaria, breast cancer, tuberculosis, and meningioma.
