FMN2: Proteins and Enzymes

The FMN2 gene encodes a 1,722 amino acid long, 180 kDA formin-2 protein that is essential in cytoskeletal organization as well as establishment of cell polarity, particularly during female germ cell meiosis. This gene reacts to responses in DNA damage, cellular stress, and hypoxia. Additionally, it protects cells against apoptosis by protecting CDKN1A against degradation. FMN2 participates in dorso-ventral axis formation and interacts with the SPIRE1 gene. It has been associated with infertility, coronary heart disease, multiple sclerosis, atherosclerosis, and aortic aneurysms.
