Twist-2, also called Dermo-1 (dermis-expressed protein 1), is a member of the bHLH family of transcription factors. Twist-2 is expressed in the embryonic mesoderm and neonatal dermis. It interacts with and represses activity of SREBP1c (sterol regulatory element binding protein 1c) and other transcriptional activators and regulates gene expression in a subset of mesenchymal cell lineages. It is a key negative regulator in myogenesis and myeloid lineage development.
