UBE2Q1: Proteins and Enzymes

Ubiquitin-conjugating Enzyme E2 Q1 (UBE2Q1) is a widely expressed, 422 amino acid (aa) member of the Ubiquitin-conjugating (E2) enzyme family with a predicted molecular weight of approximately 42.5 kDa. The human protein shares 99% aa sequence identity with the mouse and rat orthologs. UBE2Q1 has an RWD domain and an E2 catalytic core domain, the latter of which is required for the formation of a thioester bond with Ubiquitin. UBE2Q1 has been reported to regulate the internalization of the cell surface protein, GalT1. Female UBE2Q1-deficient mice produce litters with increased embryonic lethality and have decreased implantation capacity of homozygous mutant embryos, suggesting that UBE2Q1 is important for female fertility. Additionally, UBE2Q1 mRNA and protein expression levels are increased in breast cancer samples compared to non-cancerous breast tissue samples, suggesting that UBE2Q1 may play a role in cancer.
