Product Summary for Caspase-9 Antibody [mFluor Violet 450 SE]

Immunogen

Antibody was raised against a peptide corresponding to 20 amino acids near the center of human Caspase 9. The immunogen is located within amino acids 290-340 of Caspase 9. Amino Acid Sequence: ASTSPEDESPGSNPEPDATP

Specificity

Caspase-9 antibody is predicted to have no cross reactivity to other members in the caspase family. Human CASPASE 9 has 4 isoforms, including isoform 1 (416aa, 46kD), isoform 2 (266aa, 30kD), isoform 3 (154aa, 17kD), and isoform 4 (333aa, 37kD). Mouse CASPASE 9 has one isoform (454aa, 50kD) and Rat CASPASE 9 also has one isoform (454aa, 50kD). NBP1-76961 can detect human and mouse isoform.

Background: Caspase-9

Caspase 9 (CASP9) is a member of the cysteine-aspartic acid protease (caspase) family that is involved in the execution-phase of cell apoptosis. Caspase 9 is expressed as an inactive proenzyme which then undergos proteolytic processing by upstream caspases, to form an active (cleaved) caspase 9 form.

There are two classes of caspases involved in apoptosis; initiators (activation by receptor cluster) and effectors (activation by mitochondrial permeability transition). Caspase 3 is considered an initiator, as initiated caspase-9 goes on to cleave the effector procaspase-3 and procaspase-7.

Caspase 9 antibodies are important tools for apoptosis studies and research on the caspase family mediated apoptosis signaling pathway.
