Background: CXCR4

CXCR4, also known as fusin and CD184, is a 7TM G protein-linked chemokine receptor. CXCR4 is expressed on B cells, monocytes, CD4+ T cells, colonic epithelial cells, and astrocytes and binds SDF-1/CXCL12. CXCR4 is up‑regulated on mammary tumors. CXCR4, in cooperation with CD134 and heparan sulfate proteoglycans, functions as a co-receptor for feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) entry into cells. Feline CXCR4 shares 97%, 95%, 88%, and 90% aa sequence identity with canine, human, mouse, and rat CXCR4, respectively.
