5-HT1A Receptor Antagonists: Small Molecules and Peptides

5-HT1A is one of the several different receptors for 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin), a biogenic hormone that functions as a neurotransmitter, a hormone, and a mitogen. Serotonin(1A) receptors, including 5-HT1A, belong to the family of G protein-coupled receptors and are implicated in the generation and modulation of various cognitive, behavioral and developmental functions. A relationship between 5-HT1A receptors and serotonin transporter (5-HTT) is also suggested by the pathophysiology of depression and the mechanism of action of antidepressants.
