Chitinase 3-like 2: Proteins and Enzymes
Chitinase 3-like 2 (CHI3L2), also called chrondrocyte protein 39 or YKL-39, is a 39 kDa potentially glycosylated protein belonging to the family of chitinase-like lectins. These proteins are structurally related to the glycosylhydrolase family 18, but lack enzymatic activity. It is secreted by synovial fibroblasts, chondrocytes, and TGF beta/IL-4-stimulated monocyte-derived macrophages. CHI3L2 expression in synovium correlates with osteoarthritic cartilage degeneration, and is a potential biomarker for osteoarthritis.
