Desmocollin-2: cDNA Clones
DSC2 belongs to the cadherin family of adhesion molecules. It is a principal component of epithelial cell desmosomes and interacts homophilically as well as heterophilically with Desmoglein-2. DSC2 is the only desmocollin that is normally expressed in simple epithelia of the GI tract, although it is downregulated during colon carcinogenesis. A variety of DSC2 mutations are associated with the cardiac arrythmia disorder ARVC.
