DISP1: Proteins and Enzymes
DISP1 is a multispan (12) transmembrane protein that belongs to a family of sterol-sensing molecules. It is required for paracrine hedgehog signaling by cholesterol-modified SHH. The mechanism by which it does so is unclear; it may facilitate the formation and/or release of SHH oligomers from SHH-producing cells, promoting paracrine SHH diffusion.
