Leptin R: cDNA Clones

Leptin Receptor (Leptin R; LEPR; OB R) is a cytokine receptor for Leptin, a multi-functional hormone that plays roles in food intake, energy metabolism, angiogenesis, reproduction, hematopoiesis, bone metabolism, and immune function. It is primarily expressed in adipose tissue and the hypothalamus and can be released as a soluble molecule. Soluble Leptin R delays the clearance of Leptin from the circulation and is elevated in patients with chronic heart failure, end-stage renal disease, and anorexia. Mutations of Leptin R can cause extreme obesity in humans, mice (db/db), and rats (Zucker fa/fa).
