NTH1: Proteins and Enzymes

NTH1 is a 34 to 37-kDa ortholog to E.coli Endonuclease 3. The molecule is approximately 300 amino acids in length, and contains a catalytic site plus four metal binding sites in its C-terminal one-third. It is involved in the base excision repair pathway (BER). NTH1 acts as a DNA glycosylase with an abasic (apurinic/apyrimidinic [AP]) lyase activity directed against oxidatively damaged pyrimidines. It also demonstrates thymine glycol repair activity on mitochondrial DNA.
